Flash Mob is an expression/performance art where a group of people meet at a previously agreed upon location and time to perform a seemingly mundane choreographed task or dance and disperse as suddenly as they appeared. Join Kathleen Cullen Fine Arts as it presents “Flash Mob,” where the work of the above artists comes together briefly in New York City before moving upstate to the Re Institute. The concept of Flash Mob has been in existence longer than it has been recognized by the term “Flash mob.” Traditionally, artists have banded together in gangs based upon common conceptions and practices. These artists use their work to create their own reality within society that is larger then themselves alone. Together their work evolves to encompass new media and methods that distinguish them from other gangs and earlier movements creating something entirely their own. Unconfined by a single medium many of the artists listed above dabble in various methods including photography, drawing, sculpture painting and combinations therein. What unites these artists is not a common subject or medium, but an idea that traditional methods must be discarded in favor of something new and unique just as Flash Mob creates something new and non-replicable each time.
